Metallic wins on visual depth and is the right call when the floor is part of the home's design language: visible from the kitchen, used as a bar, or photographed for the listing.
Coastal humidity (Encinitas, La Jolla, Coronado, Del Mar) means longer pot-life management and ASTM F2170 RH probes alongside calcium chloride MVER readings. Inland heat (Poway, Escondido, Ramona) pushes slab temps over 100°F in August and shortens the polyaspartic recoat window — we batch installs to morning starts.
Slabs from the 1970s–90s rarely have a vapor barrier. Roughly 30% of San Diego slabs we test require a moisture mitigation primer — a $1.50–$2.50/sq ft line item that adds five years of bonded service. Skipping it is why most failed garage floors fail at the bond line.
A real quote names the resin manufacturer and product, the surface profile target (CSP 2–3), the moisture test method and reading, the broadcast rate, the topcoat mil thickness, and the warranty. If a quote bundles those into one line and you can't see what's behind it, send it back.
Premium polyaspartic chip in San Diego runs $9–$14/sq ft installed for a sound 600 sq ft two-car garage. Metallic with UV topcoat runs $12–$18/sq ft. Bargain $2–$4 quotes are usually one-day acid-etch installs that look great at year one and fail in year three.
